Michael Alter, LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Masters of Social Services degree from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I received my Oregon licensure (#OR-2201) in 1995. My professional experience encompasses a specialty in court appointed Reunification Therapy. I’ve done extensive training through William James College and continuing education seminars and workshops through the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC). I am a member of AFCC, the AFCC Oregon Chapter, and the Oregon Association of Collaborative Professionals (OACP). I am committed to assisting children and families embroiled in high conflict post-separation / post-divorce scenarios, struggling with resist-refuse dynamics and contact problems with a parent.

After completing training through Oregon Family Institute (OFI) in 2009 I worked as a Parent Coordinator on court appointed cases for five years between 2010-2015. In addition to family law cases, I maintain a private practice with couples, adults, children, adolescents and their families. My Social Work training and experience working in psychiatric residential settings, hospital level care for emotionally disturbed youth, and with families involved in the Department of Human Services (DHS) informs my non-adversarial approach to enlist multiple perspectives to assess problems within a family, and between families and community systems. I serve many treatment populations including couples, blended families, parent-child challenges, trauma and stress reactions, sexual and emotional abuse, divorce adjustment, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, grief/loss, attentional problems, children of alcoholics, chemical dependency and recovery issues, and anger management.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Master Addiction Counselor who has been practicing for over 25 years. I earned my bachelor’s in counseling degree at Old Dominion University and my master’s degree in counseling at the University of Phoenix. I have been certified as a Child and Family Investigator who has been working with children and families for over ten years.

I have vast experience working with mental health, crisis, addiction, trauma, and domestic violence. I provide both individual and group counseling and have worked in numerous professional settings including both in-patient, outpatient and private practice.

I owned an agency for twenty years and provided domestic violence treatment, addiction treatment, parenting, intensive outpatient, and mental health treatment. Upon moving, I then worked as Executive Director and therapist of a dual diagnosis/ addiction treatment center for veterans and first responders, I was honored to serve a community of individuals empowering them to see themselves through the best possible lens. I currently work in private practice providing individual, family and group therapy and serve all populations including marginalized communities and genders.

Although I am trained in many modalities, I truly believe that one treatment does not fit all. The focus of my style is both client centered, strength based and one of empowerment.

My goal is that my clients will take away a deeper understanding of themselves and develop a healthy and whole sense of individuality. I strive to create a safe environment of compassion where you can show up as you are, with no judgement. At its core, our sessions will always move at the speed of trust. My goal is to make sure that everyone walks away with a developed sense of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, and a way of thinking and interacting with the world around you with clarity and understanding.

Dendree Knott, Office Manager

I received my degree in Health Records Management from Central Oregon Community College. I have heard it said that you should be what you wanted to be as a child. I wanted to be a child psychologist, and then an accountant. I believe I am doing a little bit of both with this profession. Helping the therapists who help others is very rewarding to me.

I have owned and operated my Jazzercise franchise for 40 years and that helps me to work with a wide variety of people with varying needs.
